While commentary is sometimes nice it is not always necessary the journey and sights make up for that. Life and earning an existence in parts of Italy must be so difficult and heart breaking. I'd love to visit again one day.

My great grandparents immigrated to the United States from Palermo and Corleone in the late 1800's. I am traveling to Italy in November with my daughter and looking forward to visiting both of them. I know it will be very sentimental for me. How my late mother and my grandparents would have loved to have gone there!

Your video is very, very good, well shot and carefully edited and truly captures the vibrant summer life, the unique beaches and the ambience of this island. However, it is a very sad and disappointing thing to know that Mykonos, once the island selected by authors, painters, sculptors and people aiming to experience the natural beauty of this island that was a rather poor stronghold for pirates for centuries has now become a place where prostitution, drugs, alcoholism, rudeness and complete disrespect of almost any lawful behavior rules. Hotels, restaurants, beach bars and cafeterias charge exorbitant prices (usually without issuing any receipt), they employ young Greeks or illegal immigrants at monthly wages below (sometimes way below) the minimum wage, without any social security compensations and having them work 12-14 hour shifts 7 days per week treating them like slaves,, while beach bars and hotels occupy beaches charging ridiculously high prices for an umbrella and two chaise longues, forbidding people who are not willing to use them and pay for them from swimming in the beach (by Greek law all beaches are public and freely accessible to everybody). Much of the tourist economy of the island is in the hands of the Russian mafia and its oligarchs much of the supply of food, equipment and fuel a part of the building business is ruled by the Albanian mafia. Corruption runs high, as you can open any sort of shop almost anywhere if you have "the right connections" and you can build whatever you wish or can afford without feeling restricted by any building permits, Greek laws on the use of land or any public space demarcation. Local Mykonians, once happy and proud of their island, are questioning whether they are going to have the means to keep their properties on the island, are more and more threatened by the shady people that make Mykonos their summer residence and by the myriads of people landing on their island in the summer, as tourists seeing Mykonos as the paradise for heavy drugs, easy free and paid sex, wild partying and a chance to engage in any sort of extreme, unhinged nightlife "entertainment" of all sorts. Mykonos was recently characterized as the "Colombia of the Mediterranean Sea", if that adds a layer of description to the fast, sad and possibly irreversible disintegration of this very beautiful island. What a shameful waste!

1972 we could take small motor boats from beach to beach from Plati Yalo to Paradise to Super Paradise to Hellas and to the town for one dollar. We slept on the beach in our sleeping bags. 35 drakmas to the dollar. An omelet was one half cent.

Ciao Marco! My name is Paul and I actually live in Castellammare del Golfo, Sicily for 6 months of the year until I get my Elective Residency visa. Just two days ago I was thinking of driving to Corleone but I ended up going to Erice instead. I tried to go to Corleone last fall but my Google maps directions led into actual farm fields and dirt roads, LOL! I think that I will try again to go to Corleone one day this week. Have you been to Castellammare? I love it here and have made some wonderful friends that are now like family! Buona domenica, Paul in Sicily

Awareness for travelers on how to avoid ferry accidents visiting Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, and Capri. The emergency response in Sorrento (Police, Italian Coast Guard, Ambulance, Fire Department) was inefficient and unprofessional. On April 30, 2024, around 18:40 local time in Positano, Italy, we boarded the Position Jet Ferry from Position to Sorrento. About 100 passengers were on board, including families with children. The people onboard were from the USA, Canada, the UK, and Italy. Since we started the trip from Position, the driver has been speeding and playing with the ferry, going left to right. Around 19:00 local time, the driver of the ferry lost control of the boat, and the boat went sideways and started to sink for about 40 seconds. The lifejackets were not available. Water came into the ship, and a lot of people got hurt, traumatized, and panicked because the ship was not going to reach a floating point until a miracle happened that put us in a position to be normal. People around the world have to be aware of the tragedy and trauma that we experienced that day on the Mediterranean Sea-Gulf of Naples. Since the accident on April 30, 2024, we have never been contacted by any authorities from Sorrento, Italy, to provide us with an incident report number.
